Be 100% sure

The navel piercing takes six months to heal and if you regret it, it is not so easy to remove it. You must be convinced that you want to do it.

Attention to certain products

It is not recommended that you use creams, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide or perfumed lotions on the surface of your new navel piercing, as they tend to get trapped inside the piercing, potentially infecting the area.

How to bathe with a navel piercing?

Special care must be taken when showering or bathing in the pool or beach in the healing process. Here we explain how to do it: Ideally, there should be minimal contact between the piercing and the water: we advise that you bathe as quickly as possible and that the water be applied softly, try not to rub around or near the piercing while you are in water and do not allow any soap, shampoo, conditioner or any other chemicals to come into contact with the piercing.

For the first week, avoid swimming in a pool or the beach. When you go after the second week, after getting out of the water you have to treat yourself with saline and gauze, so you can make sure that the piercing is always clean and free of infections.

The complete healing of a navel piercing will depend on the skin you have, how the healing process evolves and how you care for it. In general, it usually takes between 3 and 6 months to heal completely, although there are people who can take up to a year.

Here are some tips that you must follow so that the healing and complete healing of the navel piercing occurs as soon as possible:

  • Clean the piercing four times a day with a solution of sea salt.
  • Wear comfortable clothing, forget about tight clothing that could rub or get caught on the piercing.
  • You can eat fruits such as oranges or strawberries: it will help speed up recovery, and try to get as much rest as possible.
  • Sleep on your back or side: Sleeping on your stomach will put too much pressure on your piercing, causing unnecessary discomfort and possibly even infection.
  • Avoid creams and liquid soaps, as they can be too aggressive for your wound.
  • Avoid sun exposure, at least during the first week.  Then always with high coverage protection.

You can get your belly button pierced at the time you consider best, but the ideal would be a few months before the summer, so when the summer season arrives you can display it without having to worry about care. If, for whatever reason, you can only do it at that time, be very careful with the healing process. Do not abuse baths so that it heals properly and protect it to a greater extent from the sun.
