How to heal your tattoo in summer

10 June 2022

If you have decided to get a tattoo now or you recently got a tattoo, there are a series of cares that you must take into account if you want your tattoo to heal well and you want it not to deteriorate, especially if you are going to go to the beach or to the swimming pool.

If, like us, you are hooked on the world of ink, any time is a good time to get a tattoo. But is it the best time to get a tattoo?

It is a question that we usually ask ourselves when we doubt how our tattoo will evolve with different factors, sun exposure, chlorine, swimming pool... but let's be calm, since you can get a tattoo perfectly well in summer as long as you take the right precautions and take care of the tattoo, especially during the first four weeks.

Keep in mind that this is the most important healing period for a tattoo.

Sun exposure is one of the most dangerous handicaps, we must understand that we cannot expose the tattoo to the sun for at least one month. A tattoo is after all nothing more than a fresh scar, and we have to take care of it as such. The least recommended is to expose it to the sun or salt water.

How to take care of a freshly made tattoo?

To take care of a freshly made tattoo it is important to follow some steps to avoid infections and keep the skin hydrated and healthy. Here are some recommendations:

  1. Leave the tattoo covered for 3-4 hours after it has been done.
  2. Subsequently, we have to let it heal in the air.
  3. Always wash your hands before any treatment.
  4. Always wash the tattoo with warm water and pH neutral soap. Dry it gently and put a thin healing layer.

How long does it take for a tattoo to heal in summer?

The healing phase lasts up to a month, so it is advisable to follow the following tips:

  • Wash the tattoo gently, without overdoing it.
  • Avoid humidity.
  • Short showers
  • Avoid long baths or swimming.
  • Heal 3 times a day for 2 weeks.
  • Do not rub or wear tight clothing.
  • No contact with salt water for 4 weeks.
