We answer all your questions before you get a tattoo.
At Noble Art, we want it to read perfectly today and years from now: ideally 3–4 in minimum. If the design has lots of detail (textures, eyes, backgrounds), we usually recommend 4–6 in to keep it sharp.
Can you do a portrait/animal in micro-realism, or is a bigger size better?
Yes, and it can look incredible when planned right. Still, for portraits or animals with fine features, it’s usually best to go medium-sized—more “canvas” = more realism and better aging.
What looks better for realism: black & grey or color?
It depends on the impact you want. Black & grey tends to look more timeless and holds contrast really well; color is bolder and more vibrant, but needs extra care (especially sun protection) to maintain intensity.

When is a hand tattoo refresher necessary?
Tattoos on the hands tend to fade more quickly than in other areas, so it is more than likely that you will have to resort to a refresher. You should do this in the following cases:
If the tattoo has healed badly, which can be due to poor aftercare, a refresher could help. To avoid this, it is essential to follow the tattoo artist's recommendations, not only to achieve the optimal result, but also so that it lasts longer and does not cause infections.
The passage of time in designs with bright colors, which can gradually lose intensity. We recommend simple tattoos with a single ink in this area.
